A fairly interesting bit of bus news from DABF this evening… as some of you will know, some of Stagecoach Bluebird's work around the Mearns (8/9, 24 except Sundays, most of the 103) has been transferred to Stagecoach Strathtay’s Montrose depot, effective late last month. Going one step further from previous separate Strathtay & Meffan’s management under the Traction Group, Stagecoach have decided to relocate Meffan’s main bus work (the morning 117 Forfar Town Service, 124/125 Forfar – Glamis – Kirriemuir/Newtyle, and 128 Kirriemuir – Alyth), onto the Stagecoach Strathtay depot at Forfar, effective Monday coming (16th). 117/124/125 makes sense, and it will use one of the recently arrived ex-Stagecoach Hull Mercedes Vario’s (nothing new there for Strathtay, except they have the unusual Alexander ALX100 body), but the 128 will be ran with a big bus (a long Dart SLF) all day long – at the moment, the big bus does morning & afternoon school runs, with a minibus doing the rest of the day.
Although all the people at Meffan’s are the most wonderful, helpful, polite people you'll ever meet, I've lost the count of the number of times I've waited (usually in the winter) for a bus to turn up, and it failed. It's just that little things... like sticking to the timetable, having a fixed fare scale, and DISPLAYING A ROUTE NUMBER AND DESTINATION sometimes get passengers upset when they don't.
