Saturday in London

The day worked out fine in the end - much better than it perhaps could have.

We got into London about thirty minutes late, at 064x (someone had their knee over the last number on the clock).

TA113 211 Victoria Buckingham Palace Rd - Victoria Stn
Breakfast and top up the Oystercard
MA35 73 Victoria Stn - Tottenham Court Road
Stop at a filthy internet cafe, and walk via the "diversion" for Russell Square buses (59/68/91) via Bloomsbury Street, and onto Goodge Street
VNL32270 10 Goodge St Stn - Kings Cross Stn
Look at the scenes and tributes
There were supposed to be extra 91's between Euston and Holloway Road, but they were blinded up as a RRS. These Olympians were new to the 341, but were often used on the 91/N91's in days gone by.
VNL32326 476 Kings Cross Stn - Euston Stn
Northern Line Euston Stn (via M.Cres) - Finchley Central Stn
The Olympian driver and customer care helper of Sullivan Buses wanted to pose as I took the pic... Dean's company seems to have a way for getting good staff! Went to Finchley Library and managed quite a nice haul of timetable leaflets and Journey Planner booklets...
DLA116 125 Finchley Library - Southgate Station
Quick photo stop before a 121, but was asked to "Stop and Account" by the Metropolitan Police! There were four of them - more than at Kings Cross! Still, explaining I used to work on the tube probably helped reassure them I was not a terrorist... Only ONE 121 went south in the whole time they were checking both of my names (and the police officer initally got told to radio another department, as he was not in their team! charming...) So, when the next 121 arrived, it was fairly packed. I decided to wait for the next one, so decided to tell them what I was up to - all four were gone! Anyway, my lunch meet is also running late, so it's ok... Also, "Dowa" month in March is still advertised by First here too (see back to June when it was advertised across the Central Sco
DLA195 121 Southgate Station - Wood Green High Road last stop
Strangely we were not taken into Turnpike Lane Station - not sure why! Buses were running as usual, but no tubes. Pics on the High Road/Turnpike Lane corner, including seeing several contentions on the "yellow box rule" and one case where a TPL driver on the 217/231 got a finger from the driver in front, although the driver had his car across the box!
DLD47 232 Wood Green High Road 1st stop - Wood Green Station
Missed it at Turnpike Lane Stn, the traffic was so solid, once I got to the next stop (now a bit further up) it was the same bus.. Met G for lunch at the Wetherspoon's at Wood Green High Road, before having a good afternoon shopping on Wood Green High Road.. When she went off for our order, the guy opposite approached me (in broken english) for my phone number... I let him down gently with the fact that I was not local, but he was old enough to be my dad... She had to take a few things back to various shops on the High Road, which (on at least two occasions) saw my eyes go for a few other purchases... We stopped at the caf at Turnpike Lane Station (where this pic of me was taken) and I decided to go for a 41 - although there was a rail replacement bus running to Seven Sisters every so often, the 29's and 141's were all also full to crush load. So, in the hot day, I decided to go for the 41 to Archway for the Northern Line.
DLA281 41 Turnpike Lane - Archway Station
Northern Line Archway Station - Bank Station
Central Line Bank Station - Ealing Broadway Station
...32906 427 Ealing Uxbridge Rd - Southall
The usual Saturday night problems at the lights left eight buses speared - 207/427/607, plus others i.e. 195. The driver of the bus offered all to be dropped off, then a few minutes later someone else wanted off. The driver refused a swe were between stops, but hinted the passenger can let themselves out with the emergency button... About 30 secs later, the front door was still open, and we weren't moving. I thanked the driver, got out the front, and closed the door via the other emergency button... The traffic did not do any good to 105's which had about a 30 minute gap, from what the waiting people were saying.
VP125 120 Southall Broadway - just before Southall Station
There was a 435 seen heading up a few moments earlier, and either a 105/435 was behind us - although either would do, I'd almost given up...
...33148 105 just before Southall Station - Heathrow Airport
Met up with Steve Parker who wound me up about a search party...
Piccadilly Line Heathrow T123 - Hyde Park Corner
This is the last stop on the Picc line right now, as it is running in two sections i.e. LHR - HPC and Arnos Grove - Cockfosters. The only other turning point was Kings Cross, out of action due to the bombing.
VPL189 52 Hyde Park Corner - Victoria Station
LDP241 239 adj Victoria Station - Buckimgham Palace Road

And back in time for the 2355 bus home... which was 50139. We have a driver who I am not sure of location (either Leyton or Nuneaton), but Magic Joe is co-pilot...
So, in the end, it was a day I will never forget, but I still got to have a good time. Thanks to Steve and G for breaking their Saturday to come see me.
