Life without Megatron
I had a hospital appointment for this afternoon, in any case. After a brief bit in town, I went up to Ninewells a little earlier than the time, so I could have another meet with Paula from SHA (Scottish Huntington’s Association – I would have included the web link, but the site is “being reviewed and redesigned”, before she goes off on maternity leave (this coming Friday). On the way up to Ninewells, I had what was Strathtay Leyland Olympian/Alexander 902 on the 75A. I remember on the depot visit on Sunday, there was questions as to if this was part of the scrap line or not… but no, it’s still doing college duplicates, and today –it even got to Ninewells (and back again, as far as I know). The bus was being crewed by a conductor who I’d not seen in a long time, either.
So, we’d arranged to meet at 1400, and as the bus got in just a shade late, I was able to make it bang on, and she wasn’t too far behind. Now, cast your mind back a few months to the beginning of the year, and the end of last – do you remember Genetics at Ninewells wrote to my doctors, saying that I had not attended on three occasions? (the one when they took the blood sample, the one when they gave me my results, and the one follow-up in January that I never got the appointment for?) Well, turns out that the follow-up had a “reply slip” to be sent back, if I still wanted an appointment other than the one I was given. Because I never got the letter for the appointment, not only did I miss the appointment, but also I was then “off” the system. Well, now I am back on the system, with an appointment probably for soon (maybe as early as the end of October), which must be good news. I hope…
Anyway, I then proceeded down two floors for my 1430 appointment, and got booked in. Now, Speech Therapy is one of the few departments in Ninewells Hospital that still use hand-written appointment cards, and I got the card in question on Saturday past. I sense you going ahead of me here, but the receptionist turned out to be “not surprised” that the appointment was not written in her version of the desk diary, but duly wrote it in, and told me to take a seat… 30 minutes later, she realises that the reason it’s not in the diary, is because Sally is on holiday… so I look at the card. Wednesday the ELVENTH of October, i.e. NEXT week. Kind of shows you how screwed my mind was when I received this – under normal circumstances I would have given the card to the on-duty team manager, who would have picked up my error….
On the way home, took the 72 back from Ninewells to Tesco Riverside, to pick up a few bites to eat. As I board the bus (1510 journey by the way ran, because the Dundee schools are off this week!), the driver said "Did I see you driving a car earlier on?" Now, two issues there… one, I’ve not got a driving licence, and am almost 99% likely never to have one. Secondly, if that was not enough, I've not got a car… Never mind, advised the driver accordingly, and we proceeded. Got home, mentioned this on the forum, and a response from Gareth was “Take Heart Suzy, Must mean there are others just as scary as you!” Now, I’ve still not been able to top that…
